ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Potato Starch carrier bags have a gorgeous semi translucent frosted appearance. As they are made using potato starch and are 50 microns thick, they can be home composted without the need to go to Industrial composting sites. Potato starch carrier bags are deceptively strong and can be branded with C pantone inks upto 3 colours on both sides of the bag. They are a British made carrier bag which adds to their environmental appeal. We can turn the top of the bag over to create a double thickness handle which reinforces and adds strength, making them a popular choice for distilleries, bookshops and environmentally conscious gift shops.
PRINTING OPTIONS
Flexo printed with rubber printing plates for small order volumes using water based pantone C numbers. We can print upto 50% of the bag surface with ink without jeopardising the compostable credentials of this potato starch bag. We cannot flood the bag with ink as this will stop the microbes from composting the material.
For small order volumes below 50,000 bags it is best to keep artwork simple, with solid lines and blocks of punchy colour.
Larger volumes can be gravure printed up to CMYK achieving more complex artworks.
As with all flexographic printed products, each colour printed and side printed will require a rubber plate to be made. Each plate carries a charge. This is why adding extra ink colours onto a flexographically printed bag costs extra up front.
Unlike litho plates, we keep the flexo rubber plates for re-use so the upfront set up charge only applies to the first order. The plates keep well and can be used for many years to come.
The screen ruling for designs with tints and tonal elements is 55 LPI so shaded areas are best kept to a minimum as the dots can be quite visible to the naked eye and are not fine like digital or litho prints.
SIZES
The most popular size is 38cm wide x 45cm high plus 8cm bottom gusset but lots of sizes are possible.
Smallest possible size is : 20cm wide x 30cm high.
Largest possible UK size is: 76cm wide x 45cm high plus 7.5cm bottom gusset

DELIVERY TIMESCALE
Our standard lead time is 3-4 weeks but we can offer a fastrack 7-10 working day service for those clients with a tight deadline. For larger orders over 50,000 we can also import from one of our established factories in Europe, offering great savings and more choice. This usually takes 6-8 weeks.
ENVIRONMENTAL CREDENTIALS
As a sustainable crop, Potato Starch carrier bags offer fabulous front end environmental credentials. What’s more, the inks used are water based and are non toxic.
They are British made which supports our own domestic manufacturing.
As a certified home compostable product, once the bag has fulfilled its useable lifespan it can be disposed environmentally in a household compost bin without the need for added chemicals. The inert residual matter can be used like any other composted materials in the garden.

Note that as with all flexographically made products, there is a 10% tolerance allowed on the final quantity made and we always charge for the exact number produced.
